In-home care for disabled adults

There is no denying that we all feel more comfortable in our own homes. However, for someone with a disability, your family may be worried about how you are able to do regular activities, for example, cooking and going shopping. An in-home carer is able to provide the assistance you need with tasks like this. You can have the peace of mind that there is always going to be somewhere there to help you, no matter the circumstances. Plus, no matter whether you only need disability support services for a short period of time because your disability is not permanent or your family usually cares for you, or you need live-in care and support on a long-term basis, we can assist.

The different types of home help for disabled adults

There are a number of different options available to you when it comes to disability care at home. However, the two main options are as folllows:

  • Visiting care
  • Live-in care

Live-in disability assistance

This form of care is when the disability support worker will live in the client’s home, ensuring they can help whenever the patient needs it, day or night.

With live-in care, some of the support services that can be provided include all of the following:

  • Moving and transferring clients in and out of their bed
  • Assisting with dressing
  • Assisting with shaving, oral hygiene, and washing
  • Assisting with feeding
  • Preparation of nutritious homemade meals
  • Accompanying the client to an appointment they need to go to, either in a private hire vehicle or in the carer’s transportation
  • Collection and delivery of allowances and pension benefits
  • Purchase of items on a shopping list the client has provided
  • Collection of prescriptions
  • Sorting, washing, and drying the client’s towels, bedding, clothing, and other domestic washing
  • Washing up and other general housework tasks, for example, ironing and cleaning
  • Assistance with using the toilet, commode, or other toilet aids
  • Reminding, assisting with, and administering medications

We make sure that the live-in care we provide is flexible to allow for the patient’s specific needs. Our sympathetic and versatile carers will evaluate the client’s daily routine, ensuring a relationship that leads to optimum well-being and reassurance.

We’ll put together a comprehensive Care Plan

Our passionate Case Managers will work with the participant and their families to develop a comprehensive Care Plan which ensures that the services provided are aimed at achieving participants goals, wants and needs.

Following an initial consultation with a health professional, Home Caring develop for you a comprehensive 24 Hour Care Plan and home care package which addresses all areas of support we offer and how we might best serve to support and maintain your lifestyle.

Visiting care

Some adults with disabilities want to maintain independence and so they don’t want a carer living with them. If this applies to you, visiting care may be more beneficial. With this, you will continue to live at home and you will have a carer who comes to visit you on a daily basis. This could be one, two, or three times per day.

Someone who is looking for visiting care will have different requirements when compared with those needing live-in care. However, the support provided will still fall in line with the list above. This includes visiting the shops, help with personal hygiene, and help with light housework and cooking, as well as companionship.

Disability support for those with physical disabilities and learning disabilities

We provide disable home health care for those with physical disabilities and those with learning disabilities. Below, we will explain more about our disable service for both.

Home assistance for disabled people with physical disabilities

If you have a physical disability, this should not stop you from leading an active and full life whereby you are involved in the community in your local area. It is important that we all enjoy a meaningful and purposeful life, and that is what we are here to help you with. Here at Home Caring, we will provide you with dedicated care providers who will give you the support and assistance you need so that you can live the life you choose, where each day can be different.

We recognise that all people have different aspirations and interests. We can help you to achieve your personal goals by focusing on your unique abilities and strengths.

We can provide 24-hour home care or we can pop in once or twice a day, or just once or twice a week; the choice is yours. Our experienced carers are experienced to respond to physical disabilities, sensory impairments, and different communication needs. There is no one better to support you and help you to live a happy and independent life.

We can help you with a wide range of activities that you may not be able to do yourself. This includes keeping your home clean and tidy, including help with domestic chores like ironing and washing, as well as maintaining your daily routine, i.e. helping you to get up and to go to bed. We will also help you to stay independent, whether this means paying your bills or taking trips to town to do the shopping.

Aside from this, we can help you to keep fit and healthy. This includes going to the local fitness centre with you, eating well, or attending medical appointments. We are also dedicated to ensuring that our patients have a happy and positive social life. Your physical disability should not mean you lose connections with your loved ones. Whether it is pursuing a favourite hobby, going to clubs, college, or school, or simply meeting with friends and family, we can assist. We can also help you with managing your responsibilities, keeping on top of day-to-day living tasks, and going to work.

Home assistance for disabled people with learning disabilities

We can also provide you with the home support you need if you or a loved one has a learning disability. Enjoying a life that has a purpose and is meaningful is something that matters to us all. Just because you have a learning disability should not mean that you are an exception. Our team is passionate about ensuring you can live a fulfilling and ordinary life, as well as being part of the community.

It is important to recognise that our services are based on you and your needs. We recognise that all people are different, and that learning disabilities impact people in different ways. That is why it is always our duty to get to know you and understand your wants and needs. It is all about making you feel as comfortable and as happy as possible.

We can provide assistance and help with all of the following: keeping your home clean and tidy, maintaining a daily routine, staying independent, keeping fit and healthy, and keeping connected.

From language processing disorder and ADHD to dysgraphic and auditory processing disorder, we have experience with a wide range of learning disabilities and so we can cater our service to suit you.

This can take a great strain off of your family’s shoulders. When someone has a learning disability, it means that the way they learn new things is impacted. The severity of this differs from person to person. However, for any family member, it can be challenging seeing someone you love struggle with a learning disability. A little bit of support can go a very long way.

Are there any other support options available?

Not only do we provide care services for the person living with a disability, but we are very aware of just how crucial our services are for the entire family. It is our aim to give you peace of mind and to put you at ease. We can also help you to explore avenues in terms of support that is available. Whether you want to find out if you could be eligible for benefits or you want some advice on choosing disability aids for around the house, we would be more than happy to assist you in any way that we can to ensure that you and your loved one can lead a comfortable and fulfilling life.

Of course, if you are a family member of someone with a disability or you usually provide care for them, it is important that you get a break from time-to-time. We are here to fill in the gaps of care whenever you need it. Perhaps you simply need our services for a week or so while you go on holiday? Maybe you want to be the primary carer for your loved one but you need some extra support? Or, perhaps you need someone to step in and take the reigns because you have something else going on in your life? No matter what your circumstances are, we can adapt the care we provide to suit you. You should not feel guilty if you are going to go on holiday or if you simply need a break. We all need to look after ourselves too. If you don’t, you could easily end up burning out and then you will not be of any use to anyone!
