生活在护理中

If you or your loved one needs high levels of care as you grow older, it can be hard to know what to do. Moving into an aged care home might give you access to more support, but it can be difficult to uproot from your home and live somewhere unfamiliar.

This is where live in care can help. Live in home care is when a carer stays the night in your home, and offers one-to-one support. While they provide active care during the day (e.g. for a period of eight hours), they are also on-hand through the night if you need assistance.

If you aren’t ready to move into an aged care home, live in care allows you to stay at home and remain close to your local community. Your family can have peace of mind knowing you are safe and well cared for, while you enjoy quality of life.

The benefits of live in home care are:

  • having a unique care plan that is personalised to your needs, interests and lifestyle;
  • avoiding being placed in a residential care facility before you are ready;
  • a live-in professional caregiver can build relationships with family members;
  • consistency in caregivers so you feel comfortable with the people supporting you;
  • a sense of calm from familiar surroundings, especially for those with dementia;
  • ensuring your medical and personal needs are met at night by familiar care workers;
  • reducing the incidence of skin infections and urinary tract infections;
  • minimise risk of falls for those who need assistance with moving around the home (e.g. getting out of bed in the morning)

What is the difference between 24 hour aged care and live in care?

Live in home care for seniors and 24 Hour Care may sound similar, but there are some key differences. Lived in care is when a care worker visits and sleeps overnight in your loved one’s home. This means they are on hand to support you through the night if you need help (e.g. toileting, transferring in and out of bed). This type of care suits for those who generally sleep through the night, and may need care at irregular times.

24 Hour Care is round the clock care over a 24-hour period, usually provided by a team of care workers and nurses who share the workload. They provide care in shifts, so you can be supported continuously.

How much does live in help for elderly people cost?

If you are eligible, the cost of care can be funded through your Home Care Package. A Home Care Package is a government-funded program that allows older people to receive care services in their own home, so they can live independently for as long as possible. Once you have received a package, you can choose a care provider you like. You then work with them to create a care plan and suite of services that best meets your needs. The government then pays that provider a subsidy to deliver services in your home.

Senior live in care is available through a Home Care Package, depending on what level of care you are approved for. Home Caring provides live in home care in a cost effective way without compromising on quality, making good use of your funding so that nothing is wasted. For more information on how to apply for a Home Care Package, see here on our website.

Who is suited to live in care?

Live in elderly care is suitable for someone has high care needs – perhaps due to a medical condition or complex conditions – but only need active care for up to 8 hours during the day. The in home carer sleeps through the night so they are available if needs arise, such as help with toileting, or transferring in and out of bed.
