Formerly a project manager for a health clinic scheme run by the National Health Service in the UK, Andrew migrated to Australia in 2016 and worked with an aged care start-up – a move that ignited his passion for providing home care.

Andrew started Sunshine Coast Home Caring in June, 2019, and has since built up a truly exceptional team of highly experienced case managers, support workers and office staff. Frequently Asked Questions

It depends on what you are after but in general, the best aged care service is one that puts your needs and wishes at the centre of its care.

On top of looking for a provider that is professional, reputable and meets Aged Care quality standards, consider whether the service:

  • involves your friends and family in your care
  • Has specialist support available (e.g. physiotherapy, nursing, occupational therapy)
  • Cares for your whole being alongside your physical health, including your mental health, social needs and quality of life
  • Listen to you and respect your needs
  • Is attentive and careful when performing tasks
  • Offers culturally appropriate care
  • Provides things that are relevant to your circumstances (e.g. pain management, dementia care, palliative care, mobility assistance).
If you would like to live independently, home care is an option worth considering. A home care provider allows you to stay at home and still be connected to your community – while receiving the support that you need. Choose a home care provider that has a person-centred approach to care and strives to put you first. That way, you will be able to develop a care plan that truly meets your needs.

In Australia, home care is partially subsidised by the government to make it more affordable. If it is within your budget, you are expected to contribute a certain amount to your home care, called a ‘basic daily fee’. If your income is over the maximum amount of income for a full pensioner, you will also be asked to pay an income-tested care fee.

To estimate how much you may need to contribute towards your Home Care Package, use My Aged Care’s fee estimator calculator on the My Aged Care website. We are happy to chat to you about how much home care on the Sunshine Coast might cost you, or your loved one. Please get in touch for a free consultation.

Start the process by applying for a Home Care Package assessment with ACAT (the Aged Care Assessment Team) through the online form on the My Aged Care website or by calling My Aged Care on 1800 200 422. Once you have successfully applied for an assessment, an ACAT assessor will contact you to arrange a face-to-face meeting in your home.

If you would like assistance applying for a government Home Care Package on the Sunshine Coast, we’re more than happy to help. Please get in touch and we can walk you through the entire process.

To be eligible for a Home Care Package, you must be an older person who needs coordinated services to help you stay at home. Your financial circumstances won’t affect your eligibility. To find out if you are eligible, apply for an ACAT assessment on the My Aged Care website.

Home Care Packages include a wide range of services you can receive in your own home, to help you live independently for as long as possible. They include things like:

  • personal care (help with getting dressed and showering)
  • continence care
  • transport assistance
  • domestic assistance
  • nursing services (e.g. wound care)
  • medication management
  • home modifications
  • mobility equipment
  • social outings and classes
  • exercise programs
  • therapies (e.g. physiotherapy, occupational therapy)
  • podiatry services
  • help with preparing meals
  • independent living aids

Search for a Sunshine Coast aged care company that is registered as a Home Care Package provider with the Australian government.
