Life is better when you’re part of a community. Whether it’s meeting new people, learning something new or getting involved in your favourite activities, social participation is an essential part of living a full and independent life.
At HomeCaring, we provide tailored NDIS support to help you connect with your community, build confidence and enjoy the things you love in your way and at your own pace.
Social and community participation is all about helping people living with disability to be part of their community. This could be having a local support worker help you take part in your favourite sport, getting transport to a regular activity, learning and practising a new skill or staying at an overnight camp in the holidays.
With the right support, you can enjoy more freedom, independence and joy.
We help you plan and take part in the things that matter to you, such as:
Learning a new skill or pursuing a hobby
Visiting the places you enjoy, like the beach, concerts, museums, movies, the great outdoors or more
Attending regular social events like BBQs, local markets or catch-ups
Developing everyday community skills like using public transport
Joining clubs or teams that match your interests
Taking part in day programs or school holiday camps
Volunteering and giving back to the community
Having a support worker join you for activities and provide encouragement
We take a person-centred, uplifting approach to support. This means we focus on what you enjoy, how you want to grow and what makes life meaningful to you.
Our skilled local support workers, coordinators and community engagement specialists work alongside you to create a plan that matches your goals, lifestyle and interests.

Under the NDIS, assistance with social and community participation is a funded Support Category under your Core Support Budget (Assistance with Social and Community Participation) or Capacity Building Support Category (Increased Social and Community Participation). The first type of funding under Core Supports helps you engage in the community, while the second type under Capacity Building involves skills-based learning to help you access the community independently.
The NDIA covers what is ‘reasonable and necessary’ to help you meet your goals related to increased social and community participation. To find out what specifically is covered by your funding, chat to your Support Coordinator, or give us a call for some guidance on how NDIS funding works.
Yes, we can. Under the NDIS, you can access funding to support you on a holiday, such as having a support worker accompany you to provide you with assistance when needed. We can also give you the opportunity to attend a day program or camping trip with a group of people, where you can enjoy a change of scenery while having fun doing what you love.
