Support at Home is the Australian Government program for older people who need coordinated support to continue living independently at home.

With Support at Home, you can:

  • Choose a registered care provider.
  • Receive services based on your assessed needs and support plan.
  • Access government funding for approved support.
  • Stay connected, safe and independent at home.

How Support at Home funding works

Funding option Purpose How it is funded What to know
Ongoing services Ongoing help based on your assessed needs A quarterly budget Eight funding classifications are available, with services agreed in your support plan.
Assistive Technology and Home Modifications Equipment and changes that support safety and independence Separate approved funding Funding is based on your assessed needs and the approved item or modification.
Restorative Care Pathway Short-term allied health and nursing support A dedicated short-term budget Designed to help maintain or regain independence after illness, injury or decline.
End-of-Life Pathway Higher levels of support at home near the end of life A dedicated 12-week budget Works alongside clinical and palliative care services to support a person to remain at home.

How much does
Support at Home cost?

The amount you contribute depends on your financial circumstances and the type of approved service you receive. The Australian Government pays the remaining service cost as a subsidy to your provider.

Clinical supports

There is no participant contribution for approved clinical supports such as nursing and physiotherapy.

Independence and everyday living

A contribution may apply. The percentage depends on the service type and an income and assets assessment.

* Full pensioners do not have to pay this fee.
