Frequently Asked Questions

24 hour aged care and lived in care are slightly different services. 24 hour aged care is usually provided by a team of care workers and nurses who share the workload. They provide care in shifts, so you can be supported by around the clock care.

Lived in care is when a care worker spends the night in your home. They will sleep overnight but be on hand to support you, if you need help. This service is more suitable for those who generally sleep through the night, and may need care at irregular times.

If you are eligible, 24 hour care can be funded through Support at Home. With Support at Home, you may be able to receive care services in your own home, so you can live independently for as long as possible. Once you have received your Support at Home funding, you are free to choose a care provider you like and work with them to create a care plan that best meets your needs. The government then pays that provider a subsidy to deliver services in your home.

24 hour care is available through Support at Home, depending on what level of care you are eligible for. We provide care in a cost effective way without compromising on quality, so your funding can go further. For more information on how to apply for Support at Home, see here on our website.

24-hour care is suitable for someone who has round the clock care needs that are beyond what a family member is able to provide. Some reasons that you (or a loved one) might need 24 hour care are if you’ve recovering from extensive surgery such as an orthopaedic procedure; have physical limitations and struggle with day to day tasks; or have a chronic illness that requires constant supervision.

We provide 24 hr care at home, so our clients can live healthier lives. This means we take the time to get to know you, listen to you, and help you design a customised care plan that is based on what you need to live a fulfilling life. We also provide you with a consistent team of carers, so you can get to know us and feel comfortable with the people in your home.

We are also committed to providing high quality of care. Our experienced and qualified care workers and nurses deliver exceptional care according to current best practice. We also work collaboratively in multidisciplinary teams, with other health professionals and your support network.

Our team is also open to feedback and easy to communicate with. If you have a question about your care – or about your loved one’s care – we take the time to explain and discuss the best approaches, and incorporate your suggestions.

Everyone is unique with different needs, hobbies, interests and lifestyles. That means care plans should be unique and tailored to each person’s individual circumstances.

HomeCaring’s team work with you and your family, so that you are in charge of your care. We are flexible, and design our services around what our clients need to live fulfilled lives. We can also adjust our care as your needs change, so your care is always relevant to your situation.

HomeCaring also provides tailored 24 hour complex care for people living with a disability and high support needs. We are an NDIS provider, so you can receive care with funding from your NDIS plan. We can help you or your loved one live safely at home, achieve their goals and be as independent as possible.

Helping your loved one make decisions about their care can be difficult, especially if they reach a point where they require 24 hour nursing care for elderly needs. Chat to them about their preferences. Would they like to stay at home or move into an aged care facility? What kind of support do they need to stay independent?

One option is 24 hour care at home through a home care provider. If they aren’t receiving government-funded aged care, you can start the process together. The first step is applying for an assessment with ACAT (the Aged Care Assessment Team). You can do this online through the My Aged Care website or by calling My Aged Care on 1800 200 422. It takes about 20 minutes of your time. Once your loved one has applied (or you have done so on their behalf), your local ACAT assessor will be in touch to arrange a free face-to-face assessment at home. You can be with them for the entire process.

Once your loved one has been approved for government aged care funding, it’s time to starting looking for a home care provider that meets their needs. As you explore your options, you’ll have an opportunity to meet the care team, ask any questions you have, and see if they are a good fit for the person receiving care.

Feeling overwhelmed and want to talk to someone about the process? We’re happy to help. Get in touch to talk about 24 hour care for the elderly at home.
