How much does a Home Care Package cost?

The cost of Home Care Packages on the Gold Coast can vary, depending on the level of support and care you require. What is the application process for a Home Care Package?

The process of applying for a Home Care Package begins with an ACAT assessment. ACAT stands for Aged Care Assessment Team. An ACAT assessment is an evaluation conducted by a team of health professionals to determine a person's eligibility for government-subsidised aged care services, including Home Care Packages.

To undergo an ACAT assessment of care needs, you must be 65 years or older (50 years or older for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people), and struggle to do everyday things. You can apply for an assessment on the My Aged Care website or by calling 1800 200 422. You can also get someone to apply on your behalf, if you prefer.

During the assessment, the ACAT team will meet you face-to-face in your home, and chat to you about your health, what support you’re currently receiving, your ability to manage daily living tasks, and your overall support needs. The team may include nurses, social workers, and other healthcare professionals, who will work together to assess the individual's physical, psychological, and social needs.

Based on the assessment, the ACAT team will recommend appropriate aged care services that best meet your needs.
