We don’t do one-size-fits-all approaches. We tailor our approach to patient care in accordance to the needs of each individual patient. Only a personalized, comprehensive and versatile approach can ensure that patients feel like they’re living their best lives while overcoming impediments to happy independent living.

Our team members are skilled and equipped in a wide range of disciplines to meet the diverse needs of our patients- including a comprehensive range of physical rehabilitation solutions.

What is rehabilitation?

Rehabilitation means conditioning the body to re-learn movements, functions and skills which have been lost as a result of either a medical condition, a surgical procedure or an injury. It involves caring for both the body and the mind and working with the patient to rebuild and strengthen the bond between the two. This can be a long and painstaking process, and can require a multifaceted approach that incorporates a range of disciplines.

That’s why we offer a comprehensive and highly personal approach to rehabilitation to help patients get back to feeling and acting like their best selves again as quickly as possible.

How do I know if I would benefit from physical rehabilitation?

If you or someone you love has been involved in a sports injury, an injury on the road in your car or motorbike or have recently undergone a surgical procedure, there’s an excellent chance that you would benefit from physical rehabilitation. Rehabilitation has also proven effective for those who have undergone strokes, as well as people with Motor Neurons Disease or Multiple Sclerosis.

How does rehabilitation help?

When you’re affected by an injury, illness or neurological condition, the prospect of rehabilitation can seem daunting. You may not even believe that you can do it. But with the help of our highly skilled, knowledgeable and supportive team of therapists, patients can enjoy a wealth of benefits when they engage in an ongoing course of rehabilitation. These benefits can include;

  • A reduction in pain and discomfort without the need for medication
  • Better mobility and range of motion
  • Improved strength and balance
The ability to move freely and carry out day-to-day tasks without pain or discomfort
  • Improved self confidence and self-belief
  • A faster return to work, volunteering or active parenting

Of course, a course of rehabilitation can only work with the right team working tirelessly to facilitate it and give patients the support, encouragement and assistance they need.

That’s where we come in!

Our approach to rehabilitation is extremely comprehensive. Our skilled therapists are experienced in a range of disciplines which can be combined to create a highly individualized approach to your rehabilitation and ongoing care. Whether you need to get back on the rugby pitch as soon as possible following a sporting injury or you want to retain as much of your mobility and autonomy as possible after a diagnosis of Motor Neurons Disease, our team are here to help you every step of the way.

Our multifaceted approach includes…

Physiotherapy

After an injury, surgery or neurological event it can be extremely upsetting and frustrating when you’re unable to move the way you once did. You may feel like you’re trapped in an infant’s body, unable to regain the fine motor skills that you once took for granted.

Our skilled physiotherapists are can teach you how to learn old movements and skills all over again in the most effective and efficient way possible. Our approach to physiotherapy is highly multifaceted and individual from helping regain movement in an injured knee after a football tackle to neurological physiotherapy which rebuilds the connections between brain, nerves and muscles.

Our experienced physiotherapist can assess the causes of impairments in balance, coordination, posture and gait to help get patients out of bed and down the road to recovery as quickly as possible, regaining muscle strength and range of movement.

We can also provide advice on which assertive technologies and pain management treatment is the best fit for your needs.

Mobility Assessment

Before physiotherapy can begin in earnest, it’s important to carry out a mobility assessment to determine the extent to which the patient’s movement is impaired and the extent of atrophy, discomfort, pain and other factors which need to be considered when preparing a course of rehab.

When this is in place, our team of physiotherapists can implement a unique plan to help the patient regain their movement, their autonomy and their freedom.

Gait training and equipment prescription

Walking is such an everyday activity that most of us take our ability to do it for granted. But for patients in need of rehabilitation, regaining the ability to walk can seem like an unattainable pipe dream. Fortunately, our skilled physiotherapists start with a complete and thorough assessment of each patient’s mobility. Following this they can formulate a strategy of physiotherapy designed to tackle the precise limitations of each patient’s gait. They can also prescribe an appropriate walking aid where necessary and train patients in its use.

This is an important process in getting patients up and walking again as safely and efficiently as possible.

Strength training and exercise programs

After surgery, injury or the onset of degenerative conditions the muscles can atrophy and weaken resulting in a loss of strength, balance and coordination. Our team of physiologists can work with you to regain your strength and range of movement and help you to regain as much of the range of motion that you previously enjoyed as possible. This also includes strengthening the muscles of the core to improve posture and stability when standing.

Balance and fall prevention training

When patients are getting used to moving around again they may find that they are affected by impaired balance or a loss of strength in the legs and core. This can lead to an increased fall risk and the potential for serious injuries.

As well as coaching on techniques to improve balance and core strength, our physiotherapy team can carry out a full risk assessment to identify fall and trip hazards in the home, giving practical advice on how to mitigate these risks.

A better sense of balance can lead to increased confidence in movement.

Exercise Physiology

Exercise Physiology are a relatively new discipline that examines the effects of exercise on the body in detail. By studying the science of exercise, our team of psychologists can help you to regain mobility, reduce the risk of injury and advise on how to get the most out of your body in sporting and exercise while also mitigating your risk of repeat injuries.

Even if you are not involved in sports, Exercise Physiology can still prove extremely useful in improving and maintaining physical health and well-being. If, for example, a patient is living with a neurological condition or disability fatigue, weakness and diminished endurance can lead to severe impairment that can further reduce mobility. An Exercise Physiologist can prescribe specific exercises designed to engage neurons, nerves and muscles that will help support ongoing mobility while also helping to maintain healthy bone density. This is especially important because without conditioning, patients can find that their mobility is diminished and that they are more prone to falls. This in turn can lead to an avoidable loss of independence.

Our team can render invaluable support and advice either in our on-site clinic or in the comfort of your own home.

Dietetics

As Hippocrates, the father of Western medicine, once said “let food be thy medicine”. Diet is an enormously powerful tool in facilitating a comprehensive recovery. Our team of experienced dietitians can advise on dietary choices that can aid a faster and more comprehensive recovery by balancing the body’s macro nutrient needs with a dietary regimen packed with vitamins, minerals and petrochemicals to maintain strength and good health while facilitating faster healing.

Emotional and psychological support

Stress and unhappiness can be a serious impediment to the recovery process and make it extremely difficult to find the motivation and fortitude that are necessary to achieve a full recovery. But the rehabilitation process can be lengthy and frustrating, which is why we emphasis the importance of emotional and psychological support. We assign our talented team members to our patients not just on the strength of their skills and specialism but keeping in mind how well they will get along with the patient.

Fully NDIS funded

If you’re worried about the potential cost of rehabilitation either for yourself or a loved one, we have good news. All our rehabilitation services are all fully NDIS funded, so qualifying patients can enjoy them without needing to worry about financial strain on themselves and their families. We can even help demystify the process of applying and finding out if you’re eligible for support.

Our rehabilitation services include NDIS support coordination to help ensure that every patient gets the support to which they are entitled as quickly as possible without stress-inducing fuss and hassle.
