Stroke Care

Stroke Care

Life-changing events always seem to happen when we least expect them, and a stroke is one such event that can knock your entire world off-kilter. Whether you are the person who has suffered from a stroke or you are caring for a loved one who is reeling from the effects of it, it’s both physically and mentally challenging. The results of a stroke can require complicated and long-term treatment, but that doesn’t mean that you or your loved one has to be admitted to a health facility.

The best option for anyone dealing with a stroke is to be comfortable as they recover, and for some, being in their home is the best choice that they could make for their care. Recovery is often better improved when it is happening within familiar surroundings, and it’s here where Home Caring comes in. Our expert carers can help you to recover and manage your stroke care in your home, with your things and your family around you.

Stroke Care: It’s Important

Stroke care isn’t something that you decide on a whim. It’s essential that you do your research to find the best home carers, and while you do that, you’ll come across Home Caring Ltd. We’ve helped so many families to get back on their feet after a stroke, and we help them to do so while staying in their own home with their personal things around them.

Strokes are something that can have a life-changing impact on the life of a person. Also known as a transient ischaemic attack, a stroke doesn’t just affect the individual; some ripples affect their families and friends, too. When we provide our expert care in your home, we know that we will be helping you or your family member to receive the correct support. We can provide both round the clock care or visiting care, as we tailor your care plan to your needs.

At Home Caring, we have the professionals on hand who are experienced in assisting those requiring stroke care at all levels.

Supporting You & Your Family

Stroke care services are based on what you or your loved one needs and when. The best part of our care is in the fact that we can offer care within the home, which is the beauty of choosing Home Caring for your stroke care needs. As part of our service, we will support you and your family. If you’ve been caring for someone dealing with the effects of a stroke, then you need support, too.

We want to make life easy for you and your family so that you can get the information that you need and the right support at all times. We won’t dictate your care plan for you; instead, we ensure that we can work around your needs and your lifestyle.

Those affected by a stroke can find that their home is an excellent place to relearn any lost skills and learning to live with any physical limitations that they are now encountering. As part of your support plan, we will work with your family, your doctor, your nurses and any rehabilitative care you’ve partaken in previously.

Asking for help is never easy, but our friendly support workers are encouraging and can provide you and your family with the support that you need when you need it.

About Strokes

A stroke occurs when the blood supply to the brain is dramatically cut off. Usually, you could find that this is caused by a blood vessel when it bursts, or a clot has formed on the brain that blocks the flow of blood to the right place. It can happen to anyone, at any age, and there are very few warning signs that you’re going to have a stroke – until it begins, you won’t know it will happen.

It’s more common in those over 65, particularly men, and there are a variety of factors that can increase the risk. These include:

  • Family history
  • Diabetes
  • Obesity
  • High blood pressure.

It’s important to know that there are two different types of strokes out there, so let’s explore them:

Ischaemic Stroke

Caused by a blockage that cuts off the blood supply to the brain

Haemorrhagic Stroke

Bleeding in or around the brain that causes a stroke; which is much less common but has a higher mortality rate.

You can also suffer a transient ischaemic attack, which are similar to an ischaemic stroke but only lasts minutes to hours but are gone within a day. These are looked at like warning signs, and a rapid response with medical attention can minimise the risk of a further stroke after a transient ischaemic attack by 80%. Every stroke is different and how a person responds to one depends on which part of the brain is affected and how severe the damage is.

Stroke Symptoms

There are some well-known symptoms of a stroke, and we’ve listed them for you below:

  • Sudden weakness
  • Numbness or loss of use of the face, arm or leg – most often on one side of the body.
  • Difficulty speaking or understanding speech
  • Confusion
  • Trouble seeing with one or both eyes
  • Acute headache with no known explanation
  • Lack of coordination
  • Dizziness or difficulty walking
  • Fainting or unconsciousness.

Each of these symptoms is symbolic with an absence of oxygen. The nutrients to the brain are also disrupted with the bloody supply being blocked. This all results in damaged brain tissue, with half of all stroke survivors left with mild to profound disabilities that need varying levels of support. With the right stroke care, stroke victims can be back on their feet in no time at all, regaining their independence and ability to manage their daily challenges again confidently.
